The Simpsons gives crypto major mainstream exposure

Long running animated sitcom The Simpsons might not be as funny as it used to be. But it does still have a reputation for predicting the future. It has, for instance, flagged up Donald Trump as the President of the US and also guessed the Game of Thrones series finale.

And in the latest episode of the show, which has just aired Stateside, crypto has its moment in the sun. Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory (“TV’s most beloved scientist”) guest stars to explain cryptocurrencies and how a blockchain works.

In a song and dance number, an animated ledger treats us to the following zinger: “I’m a consensus of shared and synchronised digital data spread across multiple platforms from Shanghai to Grenada. Each day I’m closer to being the cash of the future. Not in your wallet, I’m in your computer.”

We then see Parsons hit the jackpot on a slot machine that pumps out Bitcoin. The ledger can also be viewed relaxing on a Caribbean island.

A subliminal message also appears on screen: "Using the word "cryptocurrency" repeatedly while defining cryptocurrency makes it seem like we have a novice's understanding of cryptocurrency. Well that is a total pile of cryptocurrency. In this system, rules are defined for the creation of additional units of cryptocurrency. They can be generated by fiat like traditional currency or just thrown around randomly or all given to LeBron."

“Also, we know who Satoshi is, but we’re not telling,” it concludes.
