Blockchain venture Hyperledger announces Walmart as a member

Walmart has joined open source blockchain consortium Hyperledger.

This launched in 2016 and is hosted by the Linux Foundation. It aims to “advance cross-industry blockchain technologies,” and has received contributions from IBM and Intel.

"We’re excited to participate in open source communities, coming together to create scalable and adaptable technology," says Sanjay Radhakrishnan, Vice President, Walmart Global Tech.

"We've seen strong results through our various deployments of blockchain, and believe staying involved in open source communities will further transform the future of our business."

Walmart’s blockchain adventures include joining the MediLedger consortium, which focuses on tracking pharmaceutical supply chains.

It has also filed various patents relating to payments, shipping and supply chain systems.
