Walmart expands marketplace business with Shopify tie up

Walmart has partnered with Shopify, the e-commerce platform provider that has emerged as the anti-Amazon.

The US retail giant is out to capture a bigger share of the coronavirus-driven surge in online shopping. It expects to add 1,200 Shopify sellers to its marketplace this year.

“We’re excited to be able offer customers an expanded assortment while also giving small businesses access to the surging traffic on Walmart.com,” says Jeff Clementz, Vice President, Walmart Marketplace.

“Shopify powers a dynamic portfolio of third-party sellers who are interested in growing their business through new, trusted channels. This integration will allow approved Shopify sellers to seamlessly list their items on Walmart.com, which gives our customers access to a broader assortment.”

Shopify has announced similar partnerships with Facebook and Pinterest in recent weeks.
