Best Buy makes diverse hiring commitment as it boosts tech team

Best Buy is set to hire more than 1,000 new tech employees in the next two years. And 30% will be people of colour or women.

"Proud to share our efforts to build out our Digital & Technology team at Best Buy and our commitment to diverse hiring,” Brian Tilzer, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Best Buy, said in a LinkedIn post.

“We are making the change we seek happen! Be on the lookout for new career opportunities in all of our locations - Boston, Minnesota, San Diego and Seattle.”

Earlier this year, the US retailer furloughed around 51,000 employees, the majority of whom were part-time workers. Best Buy has since brought about two-thirds of them back to work.

Last week, Best Buy reported its strongest online sales ever for a fiscal quarter. It also announced it would test out augmented reality technology on its mobile app and launch a self-service, in-aisle checkout pilot.

“Clearly, we are still operating in a dynamic environment, and much uncertainty remains. At the same time, we are encouraged by our clarity of purpose and our momentum, which have guided and will continue to guide our operating model changes and investments,” said Corie Barry, Best Buy CEO.

“Our purpose to enrich lives through technology is more relevant than it has ever been, and we are confident regarding our execution, adaptability and the opportunities ahead.”
