Azteco brings Bitcoin technology to hundreds of UK retailers
Azteco reports that Brits can now purchase Bitcoin from over 700 retailers across the UK and Ireland.
To do so, they can download a “Wallet of Satoshi'' app on the App Store and Google Play, go to one of the aforementioned retailers and ask for an Azteco Bitcoin voucher at checkout. They then redeem the voucher and, hey presto, they have their cryptocurrency.
Physical retail stores earn a commission for selling Bitcoin and Azteco takes a small percentage of the transaction. Vouchers can be bought in denominations from £10 - £100.
Azteco has been testing the system for several months and is now officially launching at the likes of Fultons, Cash Generators, Phone Convertors, PhoneHouse, GoMobile as well as hundreds of independent retailers.
The company also says that it is in advanced discussions with a number of large high street retailers.
Azteco has also made Bitcoin available in thousands of stores across America and will be launching in Poland in the near future.
Akin Fernandez, Co-founder, Azteco, says: “Three years ago, together with my co-founder and Google veteran Paul Ferguson, we set out on a mission to make Bitcoin accessible to the masses.”
“We have overcome the technical barriers, meaning that anyone, anywhere can now buy Bitcoin as easily as if they were topping up their mobile.”
“Beyond the UK and Ireland we have significant traction in physical stores in the US, Europe and South America.”
“We are seeing some really creative integrations of our technology, but what has been really encouraging is that without any marketing at all we are seeing huge volumes of Bitcoin purchases.”
