Mobile savvy Americans buy in bed amid coronavirus pandemic
53% of Americans use their smartphone to shop while in bed, according to research by Contentsquare released to coincide with World Sleep Day.
The company surveyed over 1,000 US consumers and found that 27% sleep with their mobile phones, whilst 18% have dreams about shopping. 4% have even dreamt about their devices.

Meanwhile, the shift to remote work means that 40% of Americans have been working from their beds during the Covid-19 pandemic.
43% say they shop on their smartphones while eating, and 19% have indulged in some retail therapy while talking to friends online. 27% also admit to shopping in the bathroom.

“A consumer shopping in bed has a different mindset to someone browsing on a desktop, and these seemingly subtle differences can have a huge impact on how they convert.”
She concludes: “Retailers should anchor their data and personalisation strategies to their customers’ objectives and expectations, and mobile today is at the heart of both.”
