Made.com launches Made + Geev circular economy initiative
Online furniture retailer Made.com has announced its first giveaway initiative with the Geev platform.
Available in the UK for the first time, French venture Geev has developed an app enabling people to donate their unwanted items to others in their neighbourhoods free of charge.
The Made + Geev initiative provides a channel for customers to rehome their old furniture and homewares.
Once customers make a purchase on Made.com, they will be able to list items they no longer need on the Geev app.
Made will also donate 10% of each customer’s new purchase value on its site to one of five charities, including Centrepoint and Wonder Foundation, on their behalf.
Philippe Chainieux, CEO at Made, says: “From the very beginning, we have pioneered a new way of working and producing in our sector, focusing on design led, small batch production that ensures we only produce what we know we’ll sell.”
“Our vertically integrated model gives us control over our supply chain, enabling us to embed sustainable practices quickly and efficiently at every stage; from the materials we source right through to how we support our customer to shop responsibly."
“The launch of our sustainability commitments marks an exciting milestone for Made, as we look to build a truly circular and responsible business that has a positive impact on its communities and the planet.”
“Our partnership with Geev is a significant first step in tackling the end of life of products. This is a key issue for our sector and we know how important it is to our customers.”
Hakim Baka, Co-founder, Geev, says: "We are delighted to launch Geev in the UK in partnership with Made, a digital pure player recognised in the furniture and homeware design world for its commitment towards sustainable development.”
“This partnership marks a key step in our evolution to make donations the go to zero waste solution on a large scale, offering a local and efficient option for consumers who wish to give a second life to objects they don’t need anymore.”
“In the longer term, our objective is to continue to make Geev available to other e-commerce players as a take back solution, supporting them on their sustainability journey.”
