Manchester City celebrates Premier League win with NFT collection
English Premier League champions, Manchester City, are marking their title winning campaign with the launch of a series of commemorative digital artwork, the ‘1’ collection, which will be available for purchase as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).
This will be the first ever time a Premier League champion has dropped an NFT (a digital asset and collectible, the authenticity, rarity, scarcity, ownership etc of which is independently guaranteed, verified, and secured on blockchain tech), to celebrate a title win.
The collection comprises four works by multidisciplinary artist, Jon Noorlander, The Champions Celebrate, the hero piece of the collection, which will be a unique edition, Signed by the Champions, The Champions Mosaic and The Champions Medal.
In addition, there will be a free prize draw giving people a chance to win an edition of The Champions Medal.
A portion of Manchester City’s profits from the sale will go to the City in the Community charity, earmarked for the Manchester Cityzens Giving for Recovery project.
This uses football to support the mental health of local young people in Manchester in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 1 collection will drop on MakersPlace on Monday, 24th May, the day after City lift the Premier League trophy at the Etihad Stadium.
Don Dransfield, Chief Strategy Officer at City Football Group, says: “In a season played largely without fans in the stadium, digital engagement has been more relevant and important than ever before.”
“That’s why as part of Manchester City’s Premier League title winning celebrations, we wanted to mark the moment with this unique digital collection to commemorate this season like no other.”
He adds: “Jon Noorlander is an incredible artist, renowned for his fluid and technical style – much like the beautiful football which Pep Guardiola’s team is famous for.”
“Producing these art works as an NFT creates an opportunity not just to observe the incredible creativity of the pieces, but also to own a part of this historic moment in this historic season.”
