The five biggest retail technology news stories of the week
The weekend is almost upon us, so let’s reflect on another eventful week for the retail systems space. Here's your briefing on the biggest stories from the past few days, including the 2021 RTIH Innovation Awards, Amazon’s Just Walk Out tech and the booming buy now pay later space.
1. Buy now pay later spend set to hit $995 billion by 2026
Global spending via e-commerce buy now pay later services will reach $995 billion in 2026, from $266 billion in 2021, according to Juniper Research.
This will be fuelled by a greater appetite from users for credit to spread costs, particularly in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
2. Amazon brings Just Walk Out tech to full size grocery space
Amazon’s cashierless Just Walk Out technology is now available in a full size grocery store for the first time.
A new 25,000 square foot Amazon Fresh store lines up alongside the 10,400 square foot Amazon Go Grocery that debuted last year, and the standard 1,200 and 2,300 square feet Go locations.
It will be Amazon’s 14th Fresh location in the US when it opens tomorrow in Bellevue, Washington.
3. Bringg announces major Series E round, valuing it at $1 billion
Delivery and fulfilment cloud platform provider, Bringg, has closed a $100 million Series E round led by Insight Partners.
There was also participation from seven existing investors, including Cambridge Capital, GLP, Harlap, Next 47, Pereg Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, and Viola Growth.

5. Carrefour Group enlists Criteo, Google, LiveRamp for Carrefour Links launch
Carrefour Group has unveiled a new data and retail media strategy with the launch of its Carrefour Links platform.
This taps technology developed by Criteo, Google and LiveRamp and is pitched at third party brands.
