Buyk takes Manhattan and eyes swift NYC roll-out

Buyk, a startup which promises delivery from dark store to doorstep within 15 minutes, has launched in New York City.

Its service, which features no minimum spend and no delivery fee, is now available in Manhattan and plans are afoot to expand across all New York City boroughs by the end of 2021.

The company is also looking to launch operations in 2022 in the largest metro areas across the US.

Buyk was founded by Slava Bocharov and Rodion Shishkov. The pair also co-founded Samokat, Russia’s largest grocery delivery company, in 2018 before selling their stake to fund Buyk.

It says that what separates it from the competition is investment in building a “multi-million-dollar software system that combines the buying experience with stock and delivery management, employing the latest programming approaches and marketing techniques.”

It adds: “Coupled with artificial intelligence, our meticulously selected product assortment provides for the streamlined shopping experience, eliminating time-consuming browsing through the irrelevant items.”

Bocharov comments: “Three things are central to our business model: hyperlocality, execution and, of course, our proprietary technology. Tried and tested through years of our European operations, this technology is the magic through which the whole business operates.”

“With this tech, we can assemble the ideal assortment for each area down to the finest detail, we can optimise picking strategies to ensure your order leaves the dark store almost as soon as you’ve put your smartphone down, and we can study the best routes to shave vital minutes off delivery to ensure your order arrives when you need it, and not a second later.”

Shishkov says: “Buyk is a new entrant to the US market, but one that possesses a deep experience and expertise that other players simply cannot match.”

“From our experience building Samokat, we know how to rapidly scale our business, implement the technological solutions needed to optimise margins, and crucially, turn unit economics positive in a market where current players are witnessing significant losses.”
