Tesco Whoosh rapid grocery delivery service set for major expansion

Tesco’s one-hour delivery service Whoosh will be available from at least 600 of the grocery giant’s stores by the end of next year.

“It is a mission that customers now want and we’re clear on that,” CEO Ken Murphy said on Tesco’s Christmas trading call this week.

“Whether it’s incremental is hard to tell, but it’s somewhere we need to be and it needs to fit in with our overall proposition so customers can tap in to our wider strategy and are able to buy from us wherever and whenever.”

Tesco launched a pilot last year from a single store in Wolverhampton. It then expanded the service to London and Bristol.

Whoosh is now offered at 115 stores, and will be available at 200 locations by the end of next month.

Customers are able to order via the retailer’s app or Tesco.com, with products delivered by partner Stuart within 60 minutes by bike, moped or car, for a £5 delivery fee.

There is a minimum basket value of £15. However, Tesco can deliver shopping that is less than this, although it will charge an additional £2 minimum basket charge on top of the aforementioned £5 fee.

The Whoosh product selection differs to Tesco’s standard grocery home shopping range and the full range available in-store. Availability hours may vary and are subject to change.
