StoreSpace simplifies High Fat Sugar and Salt (HFSS) compliance

As most UK retailers are aware the introduction of the High Fat Sugar and Salt (HFSS) legislation this October will require a massive overhaul of existing store layouts.

CADS' StoreSpace® software and expert retail planning teams are on hand to provide the necessary resource.

According to the IDG, 43% of prominent placings of food and drink currently contain HFSS products.

From October, the controlled zones will include gondola ends and free-standing units, any display units within 2m of a till point, self-checkout or queuing area, as well as 3% of the sales area measured as a semi-circle around any entrance, for retailers over 2,000 sq ft.

Demarcating HFSS controlled zones on floor plans

To comply affected retailers will need to understand and demonstrate where these controlled zones are in store, a time-consuming requirement for already busy planning teams.

However this process can be simplified with StoreSpace® used to tag HFSS affected fixtures on the retailers' AutoCAD floor plans.

This will enable head office to shared coloured-coded floor plans with store teams for application in store and also with those appointed locally to enforce the law using any mobile device.

Valuable integration of macro and micro space planning

While brands are busy reviewing product formulations to comply, category mangers are ensuring product attributes are correctly updated, enabling micro space teams to identify and create HFSS 'clean planograms'.

Within StoreSpace the planograms associated with the controlled fixtures can then be reported upon to verify compliance.

Therefore using these three data sources (floor plans, fixtures and planograms), retailers can manage their controlled zones with confidence and avoid contravening the HFSS regulations and any associated fines.

The HFSS legislation has been described as the biggest diet intervention in the UK since rationing during World War II, intended to tackle the obesity crisis in the UK.

Ensuring compliance will certainly be one of the big challenges for UK retailers this year and if you need help to understand and demonstrate compliance in store, please get in touch to find out how CADS' StoreSpace® can help.
