Oliver Guy departs Software AG for Microsoft digital transformation role

Microsoft has appointed Oliver Guy as Global Industry Architect.

He joins from Software AG where he spent almost eight years, joining as Global Industry Director in 2014 before taking on the role of Senior Director, Industry Solutions in 2019.

His new job involves advising retail and consumer firms on their transformation, and collaborating to determine how emerging technologies can add value and accelerate their journey, driving efficiency and enabling new business opportunities.

Guy said in a LinkedIn post: “Incredible first week at Microsoft meeting so many new colleagues who are passionate about retail and consumer goods industry solutions and how we can help our customers with their digital transformation journeys. This really feels like a special place to be.”

Sainsbury’s Just Walk Out London store

At the tail end of last year, Guy gave RTIH his thoughts on Sainsbury’s new checkout free store, which is powered by Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology.

“Amazon Go is unlikely to be the last disruptive technology introduced by Amazon (despite getting there first) – and there is nothing wrong with being a fast follower. If collaborating with others helps you get their faster and cheaper, then everyone wins,” he commented.

“Working with other companies, vendors, and even competitors can give you an edge – one where you have more control, for example over your data.”

He concluded: “Co-opetition – that much used but rarely achieved term – can be highly beneficial for all concerned. From a technology perspective, keeping things open and agnostic allows you to bring in new partners and technologies as needed – to further enhance the outcomes.”
