First WHSmith checkout-free store lands at LaGuardia Airport
WHSmith has opened its first ever checkout-free store at LaGuardia Airport, New York.
It’s the first WHSmith to open in the US (as opposed to the retailer’s other fascias such as InMotion and MRG) and taps Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology, which was pioneered at the Amazon Go offering.
WHSmith said in a LinkedIn post: “With just a tap of a credit card, customers can enter the store, pick up their desired items, and leave. We look forward to welcoming many new customers to the store.”

Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology unit has been added to the list of Retail Technology Show exhibitors.
Taking place at London’s Olympia on 26th-27th April, Retail Technology Show’s mission is to bring together the brightest minds in retail and future thinking technology providers.
