Chipotle taps in to cryptocurrency payments space via Flexa
Mexican fast food chain Chipotle is now accepting cryptocurrency payments through Flexa at its 2,950+ USA-based restaurants.
Chipotle will offer all the 98 cryptocurrencies Flexa currently supports, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and seven US dollar pegged stablecoins.
Flexa announced the move on Twitter.
Curt Garner, Chief Technology Officer, Chipotle, told RTIH: "We are constantly exploring innovation that will enhance our guest experience, and that includes now accepting digital currency payments with Flexa in our US restaurants.”
Dogecoin
Earlier this year, EV manufacturer Tesla started accepting Dogecoin (DOGE) for merchandise purchases, and now Elon Musk has announced plans to extend this to his space exploration company, SpaceX.
Musk, CEO at SpaceX and Tesla, has been a staunch supporter of the DOGE ecosystem since 2019.
Last year, he made his Saturday Night Live debut and mentioned Dogecoin in his opening monologue.
In a Q&A with hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost, meanwhile, Musk called himself the “Dogefather”.
The value of Dogecoin plummeted during the show. Because the crypto space be crazy…
“It is the future of currency, it is an unstoppable financial vehicle that is going to take over the world,” Musk declared.
When he stated that crypto can be traded for cash, Che shot back, “Oh, so it’s a hustle”.
“Yeah it’s a hustle,” Musk laughed before shouting the Dogecoin phrase of “to the moon.”
Dogecoin was created in 2013 as a joke, poking fun at the rise of established digital assets such as Bitcoin.
It was inspired by the popular Doge meme, which offers the image of a Shiba Inu looking sideways at the camera with raised eyebrows.
