Amazon snaps up supply chain technology firm Cloostermans

Amazon continues to build out its robotics business with the acquisition of Cloostermans, a Belgium-based company that specialises in mechatronics.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The pair began working together in 2019.

“As we continue to broaden and accelerate the robotics and technology we design, engineer and deploy across our operations, we look forward to welcoming Cloostermans to Amazon and are excited to see what we can build together.”

Cloostermans’s team of approximately 200 employees will be joining Amazon global robotics’ presence in Europe.

Last year, the e-commerce giant launched a European Innovation Lab in Italy, which focuses on new ergonomic technologies.

It also recently announced a series o new robotics technologies, including Proteus, Amazon’s first fully autonomous mobile robot that uses safety, perception, and navigation technology to maneuvere around employees without being confined to restricted areas.
