Smyths Toys Superstores gets onboard with Town & City Gift Card initiative from Miconex

Smyths Toys Superstores has joined the Town & City Gift Card initiative, accepting the local gift cards at stores across Scotland and Ireland.

The initiative from Miconex is active in over 80 towns and cities and features a mix of national brands such as M&S, Sainsbury’s, Primark and New Look alongside independent businesses including shops, restaurants, cafés, salons, hotels and attractions.

Smyths Toys stores in Scotland now accept the local gift cards in Aberdeen, East Ayrshire, Falkirk and Inverness, with UK stores set to follow.

In Ireland, stores in Sligo and Drogheda are onboard. The gift card gets swiped at the till like a debit or credit card, with the balance automatically updated.

Smyths Toys stores will also accept Scotland Loves Local Gift Cards, driven by Scotland’s Towns Partnership and Miconex, at its stores in Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Highlands, West Dunbartonshire, Falkirk and West Lothian.

Mark Dinkin, Head of Finance at Smyths Toys, says: “What better time to join the Town & City Gift Card initiative than Christmas, giving people the chance to spend their local gift cards on toys and gifts during the festive season and beyond.”

"The top toys for Christmas 2023 include the Ninja Turtles Pizza Van and Figures, the Little Live Pets Mama Surprise Mini – Bunny and the Bitzee Interactive Digital Pet, and we look forward to welcoming people into Smyths Toys with their Town & City Gift Cards to buy these fantastic toys and more.”

Colin Munro, Managing Director at Miconex, says:  “What makes Town & City Gift Cards and Scotland Loves Local Gift Cards unique is the blend of national retailers and local independents in one gift card, giving people ultimate local choice.”

“It’s fantastic to welcome Smyths Toys to the initiatives ahead of the Christmas trading period, making it easy and attractive for people to support all types and sizes of local businesses, powering our local economies.”
