TPP Retail appoints former Dune Group and Morley Department Stores exec Dave Abbott as Technical Director

Dave Abbott has joined the TPP Retail leadership team in the new role of Technical Director.

TPP Retail focuses on improving store processes via the likes of shelf-edge labelling, sale and price markdown, Click and Collect, and stock management.

Abbott was previously Head of Technology at Morley Department Stores, and has also served as Head of IT Service Delivery & In-store Technology at The Dune Group.

In a LinkedIn post, James Ussher-Smith, Managing Director at TPP Retail Group, said: “Having worked with Dave on and off through various roles for 10+ years, I know first hand how great he is at crafting technology solutions that deliver real innovation, as well as building and managing high performing and happy teams.”

“At our stage and pace of growth, we need some of the valuable experience that Dave can bring both to our business but also to our customers. Four weeks in, it's been a really positive start and the benefits are visible already.”

“Although of course, we are only just getting started, and have so many great plans ahead of us. Plus, we are having a lot of fun working together!”

Abbott commented: “Many years ago, a younger and less grey version of me was sitting on a Saturday night, watching X Factor while keying in 4,000 labels for Dune's Winter sale. On the side of the printer, I noticed a TPP Retail sticker. I thought, I bet I can do this from my computer. I'll call them on Monday."

“Monday arrived, and I picked up the phone to speak with a very helpful support member who kindly said, nice idea, but not with that model. Fast forward to Retail Technology Show circa 2018: I'm chatting with one of my suppliers, James at TPP, and I recount my early experiences with TPP. He smiles and says, you spoke to me!”

He added: “Now in 2024, after gaining many more life and work experiences, I’m thrilled to be joining James, and the wider team at TPP as their new Technical Director. I started four weeks ago, and what a first impression. This is a team that delivers with pace and provides the best 'customer first' solutions. I couldn't be happier joining the team.”
