Jan De Baets departs TikTok Shop after compliance work for launch in five EU countries

Jan De Baets has left TikTok where he served as Head of Listing and E-commerce Compliance.

He joined the company in 2023 from Amazon where he spent almost eight years and held the position of Head of EU Customer Trust/Trustworthy Listings.

In a LinkedIn post, he said: “And that's a wrap! After 18 months of foundational compliance work to launch TikTok Shop in five EU countries, contributing to DSA/OSA content risk assessments and onboarding new governance teams, I've decided to relocate permanently to Flanders (after being away for almost ten years).”

He added: “In the next weeks, I will continue to support Daniel Morales (Governance Strategist & Programme Manager, E-commerce - EMEA), Mick Ryan, and Ellie Holmes (Head of Compliance), who will be taking over the helm at TikTokShop. I'm inspired by all of my team members, colleagues and the leadership at TikTok. We've accomplished a lot in a short period of time with a super smart and versatile team. We've all seen how discovery commerce is changing online shopping in Europe and I will continue to cheer for you from the sidelines.”

De Baets concluded: “I don't have a job lined up (for the first time in my career) and will be open for a new assignment in September/October, after spending a long and well deserved summer break with my family. Thanks TikTok for being a life changing experience for myself and my family. I will be in London until the end of July (in case people want to connect in person).”

2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS

Social commerce will be a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.

The awards, which are now open for entries, celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.

Our 2024 hall of fame entrants were revealed during an event which took place at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place HQ in Central London on 21st November, and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by comedian Lucy Porter.

In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “The event is now into its sixth year and what a journey it has been. The awards started life as an online only affair during the Covid outbreak, before launching as a small scale in real life event and growing year on year to the point where we’re now selling out this fine, historic venue.”

He added: “Congratulations to all of our finalists. Many submissions did not make it through to the final stage, and getting to this point is no mean feat. Checkout-free stores, automated supply chains, immersive experiences, on-demand delivery, next generation loyalty offerings, inclusive retail, green technology. We’ve got all the cool stuff covered this evening.”

“But just importantly we’ve got lots of great examples of companies taking innovative tech and making it usable in everyday operations - resulting in more efficiency and profitability in all areas.”

Congratulations to our 2024 winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Lucy Porter, and all those who attended November's gathering.
