Aldi claims on demand delivery first in UK discount supermarket space as retailer teams with Deliveroo
From October, Aldi UK will be trialling a new partnership with Deliveroo across eight UK stores, giving customers access to its full grocery range through the on demand delivery firm’s app. Modelled on Aldi’s partnerships with DoorDash, Deliveroo’s parent company, in the United States and Australia, the latter’s riders will pick, pack and deliver orders directly from stores.
The trial is pitched as the only rapid delivery service available from a discount supermarket in the UK.
Customers will be able to order around 2,000 Aldi products, including fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, dairy, bread, household essentials and Specialbuys. They can order on-demand or choose a delivery window that suits them. A nationwide launch is currently planned for early 2027.
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer at Aldi UK, says: “We’ve always been committed to bringing low prices to as many people as possible, and this partnership with Deliveroo allows us to do exactly that without changing how our stores operate. The DoorDash model has been incredibly popular with Aldi customers in Australia and the United States, and we know from our previous trial there is clear demand for more affordable groceries on a rapid delivery platform in the UK. By working with Deliveroo, we can give more people access to Aldi quality and value, however they choose to shop with us.”
Rob Harris, VP Merchant and Chief Revenue Officer at Deliveroo, says: “We are excited to welcome Aldi to the Deliveroo platform through a brand new service, Shop & Deliver. Customers in several locations across the country will soon be able to enjoy Aldi’s great value and selection delivered to their doorstep on demand.”
“For riders, Shop & Deliver is entirely optional, offering an additional way to earn outside of busy mealtimes, which often suits those who choose to ride alongside childcare or another form of work.”

2026 RTIH Innovation Awards
On demand delivery will be a key focus area at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards.
The awards are now open for entries and celebrate global retail technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.
Our winners will be revealed at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards Ceremony, taking place at The HAC in Central London on Wednesday, 4th November.
Check out our 2025 winners here.
Our 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.
In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”
“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”
He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”
Congratulations to our winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Tiff Stevenson, and all those who attended our 2025 gathering.
