Amazon Prime membership fees are about to increase

Amazon is jacking up the price of monthly Prime memberships in the US by $2 to $12.99. The aim is to push more people to an annual plan, the price of which remains unchanged at $99. The change does not affect the UK or other countries.

The increase went into effect on 19th January for new members and will phase in in on 18th February for existing subscribers. Amazon has also upped the price of its monthly student plan from $5.49 to $6.49.
