Jeff Bezos announces climate change initiative on Instagram

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos is creating a $10 billion fund to combat climate change.

In an Instagram post, the world’s richest man, who has an estimated net worth of $129.9 billion, announced that the Bezos Earth Fund will finance “scientists, activists, NGOs — any effort that offers a real possibility to help preserve and protect the natural world.”

“I’m committing $10 billion to start and will begin issuing grants this summer,” he added. “Earth is the one thing we all have in common - let’s protect it, together.”

Amazon committed last year to have 100% of its energy use come from solar panels and other renewable energy by 2030. Nevertheless, Bezos has been under pressure from his employees to do more in this area.

357 of them signed a Medium blog in January calling for the likes of net-zero emissions by 2030. Prior to that, Amazon Workers for Climate Justice published an open letter to Bezos asking for a more effective climate change policy.
