Amazon makes voice shopping move in India

Amazon has deployed an Alexa-enabled shopping feature in India.

This is currently being rolled out to Android users and is primarily in English, although it understands proper nouns and regional words across various languages. The feature has previously only been available in the US.

Customers will be able to use Alexa to search for items, add them to their carts and proceed to checkout. Once the order has been placed, they can check the whereabouts of the order through voice as well, by asking “Alexa, where is my delivery?”

Raiding Tesco

Paul Wilkinson has taken on the role of Senior Product Manager at Amazon’s Alexa Shopping business.

He previously spent almost 10 years at Tesco, where he most recently held the position of Head of Product for Space, Range and Merchandising. Prior to that, Wilkinson was Head of Technology Research and Open Innovation at Tesco Labs.

“I can't really say much about the new role but I'm super excited and enthusiastic about voice shopping,” Wilkinson told RTIH.

We are hiring

Alexa Shopping is currently on a major recruitment drive. “Our vision is to redefine the future of shopping by transforming the way our customers browse, find and buy from Amazon by using Alexa,” its jobs page states.

“We are seeking talented, experienced trailblazers to help us create unique experiences that weren't possible in the past. From data to design, across engineering, marketing, research and more, you will help further our shopping-by-voice platform through Alexa-powered devices.”
