Good habits will continue beyond lockdown, LG Electronics research

51% of Brits plan to continue new habits such as listening to podcasts, online fitness classes, and regular walking once coronavirus social distancing restrictions are lifted.

Two-fifths feel these activities boost their wellbeing, while more than one in four have found it easier to relax and keep a better routine. That’s according to research commissioned by LG Electronics, involving 2,000 people.

It also highlights how laptops (54%), TV (57%) and mobile phones (64%) are playing an essential role for work and entertainment during the lockdown, allowing us to continue watching our favourite TV shows (51%), follow at-home workouts (19%), and learn a new skill or language (16%).

Video calls have become our primary method of keeping in touch with friends and loved ones, as we embrace digital birthday celebrations (25%), pub quizzes (20%), and even stag or hen dos (7%). In fact, the average person is spending 2 hours 50 mins on video calls per week, with 48% of Brits agreeing that post lockdown they will devote the same amount of time to this, or even more.

When asked what their ideal space to work from would be in the future, home was the most popular answer (30%), followed by a fixed office (23%), and then outside space (9%).

Hanju Kim, IT Product Director, LG UK, says: “The fact that many people are forming productive and healthy new habits is testament to the nation’s ability to adjust. The nation is working from home and has an appetite to continue working flexibly even after offices reopen. A big part of this can be attributed to technology keeping us connected.”
