“The Climate Pledge Fund invests in visionary companies whose products and services can empower a low carbon economy,” says Jeff Bezos, Amazon Founder and CEO.

“I am excited to announce that we are investing in a group of companies that are channeling their entrepreneurial energy into helping Amazon and other companies reach net zero by 2040 and keep the planet safer for future generations.”

Yet another hiring spree

Earlier this week, Amazon said that it was recruiting 100,000 more workers, the fourth Stateside hiring spree it has announced this year as online shopping demand increases during the coronavirus outbreak.

The e-commerce giant noted that the positions are for full and part-time work in its operations network, both in its home country and Canada.

“We're also opening 100 new operations buildings this month across fulfilment centres, delivery stations, sortation centres, and other sites. Many of the new jobs are at the company's newest state of the art buildings,” it said in a blog post.

The Seattle-based company employed 876,800 people as of 30th June, excluding contractors and temporary personnel.
