AI powered online grocery startup Bother raises £4.4m
London-based startup Bother has secured £4.4 million in pre-Series A funding from the likes of Sun Hung Kai & Co and Venrex Investment Management.
The company, which launched last year, aims to replenish household essentials – such as cleaning products and store cupboard ingredients – through the use of AI technology called the Bother Brain.
It then delivers boxes via a free next day service.
Douglas Morton, Founder and CEO, Bother, comments: “Bother was ultimately designed as a household management tool rather than simply a shop.”
“With the help of a team of some of the best data scientists in the industry and the Bother Brain, we are positioned to increasingly empower our customers to personalise and simplify the replenishment of their household necessities with every Bother purchase.”
He adds: “Our sole focus is to simplify customers’ lives, vastly reducing the effort required in shopping for bulky basics.”
“We believe our customers have better things to do with their time than replenishing their toilet roll. In time, we hope to replenish our customers’ homes with a single click.”
Seng Huang Lee, Executive Chairman at Sun Hung Kai & Co, comments: “The growing penetration of efficient and profitable online grocery shopping has long been a trend seen in Asian markets.”
“So we are excited to partner with such a strong management team in Bother to support their efforts in bringing this same digital first efficiency to the UK and Europe.”
