John Lewis social media joke gets mixed reception from customers

John Lewis & Partners has taken to Twitter to jokingly address rumours that Prime Minister Boris Johnson isn’t a fan of its furniture.

In case you missed it, it has been alleged that Johnson accepted a loan from Conservative Party HQ to renovate his Downing Street flat, without properly declaring it as a gift.

All very juicy, but it’s another part of the story that has many Brits frothing at the mouth.

According to a Tatler report, Johnson and his other half Carrie Symonds were transforming the aforementioned gaff from “former PM Theresa May’s John Lewis furniture nightmare into a high society haven”.

This led the John Lewis & Partners social media team to put out the following tweet.

Alas, not everyone got the joke, with some people unhappy at the thought of John Lewis shelling out for social brainstorming sessions whilst at the same time closing stores due to a boom in online shopping during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ah well, we thought it was funny…

Waitrose

Yesterday, we reported that Waitrose, part of the John Lewis Partnership along with John Lewis & Partners, was expanding its Deliveroo service to 110 new stores with up to 400 new roles created by the roll-out.

That will take the number of its locations on Deliveroo to 150 in total by the end of the summer.

Customers will be able to order from an increased range of between 750 to 1,000 products and have it delivered in as little as 20 minutes from Waitrose stores in Scotland, the North West, North East, Midlands, South West, South East and London.
