Fifth Amazon Fresh London store opens in Camden today

Last week, RTIH reported on Amazon’s plans to open an Amazon Fresh location in Camden, London.

A spokesperson confirmed this but did not provide a launch date.

A few days on and the e-commerce has now issued a press release, stating that the 2,500 square feet (in front of house) store opens its doors today at 7am.

It will be the fifth such convenience store to feature Just Walk Out Shopping tech in the UK, which was pioneered at the Amazon Go offering in the States.

The other four are in Ealing, Wembley Park, White City and Canary Wharf. Opening hours are from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, seven days a week.

The former Evans Cycles shop in Chalk Farm Road, close to where Morrisons has undergone a major facelift at its long standing supermarket. has been refurbished as Amazon gets closer and closer to central London.

Camden shoppers will be able to use the e-commerce giant’s app to enter (no Prime membership required) and buy items, bagging them as they go.

At the end, they don’t need to stand in queue or check out. They are automatically billed as they leave.

They will find everyday ingredients and essentials, along with ready made meals.

Also on offer is a range of ‘by Amazon’ hot food items freshly prepared in the store. Amazon Fresh locations also sell the likes of household goods, newspapers and magazines, flowers, and greetings cards.

Amazon said in the aforementioned press release that it planned further openings in the greater London area, although it did not reveal exact numbers or locations.
