The Very Group seeks Head of Data Science

Digital retailer The Very Group is on the hunt for a Head of Data Science.

“If you're the type of person that would relish getting stuck into one of the richest data sets in UK retail then this role may be the one for you.,” Paul Hornby, DCX Director at The Very Group, said in a LinkedIn post.

“This is a huge position for us and the successful candidate will also have the pleasure of working with Steven Pimblett, so it's not to be missed!”

Further details here.

Formerly known as Shop Direct, The Very Group owns Very and Littlewoods. Pimblett came onboard as Chief Data Officer in October.

Reporting to Chief Technology Officer Andy Burton, he joined from Wejo, a UK-based car technology startup, where he held the dual role of CDO and Chief Information Officer. Prior to that, he was CDO at igaming venture Betsson Group.

Burton commented: “Steve is an outstanding leader with real technical know-how. His experience will let us further build our data capabilities to give our customers the best, most relevant experiences and help us make even faster, better decisions.”

“Amazing to be part of such a great brand and can't wait to leverage the rich data to build brilliant experiences for customers and colleagues,” Pimblett said.

Hybrid working

The Very Group recently refurbished its Liverpool HQ with an emphasis on hybrid working.

At Skyways House – a 12,400-square metre, former aircraft hangar – the company has introduced an open plan environment with various break-out and collaboration spaces.

The aim, according to a press release, is to create “the optimum team working space when the group’s 2,100 Liverpool-based colleagues begin to split their time between home and office working when circumstances allow later this year.
