AiFi powers autonomous shopping at US music festivals

AiFi is enabling autonomous retail at US music festivals including BottleRock (3rd-5th September, Napa Valley), Sea.Hear.Now (18th-19th September, Asbury Park) and Governor’s Ball (24th-25th September, New York).

At BottleRock, event attendees were able to purchase an assortment of snacks, beverages, and merchandise from an Express Shop powered by AiFi and Verizon 5G + MEC.

People entered by tapping a credit card at the entrance. Once inside the store, AiFi’s computer vision powered cameras tracked what items were taken and customers could exit with receipts delivered to their email in minutes.

The Express Shop also included event t-shirts and a variety of merchandise.

“With music festivals coming back to life, it is a great opportunity to reimagine the shopping experience. We are proud to enable a frictionless, contactless experience at BottleRock Napa Valley and more events coming up,” says Steve Gu, founder and CEO at AiFi.

Carrefour City+

Last week, Majid Al Futtaim, which owns and operates shopping malls, retail, and leisure establishments in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, announced the launch of checkout free store, Carrefour City+.

A first for Carrefour worldwide and now open in Mall of the Emirates, this taps AiFi technology.

Store access and shopping payment is enabled via the MAF Carrefour app. Once inside Carrefour City+, every item picked up by customers is automatically added to a digital shopping basket and the purchase is completed by walking out.

“Carrefour City+ has been designed to make life easier by using technology to remove friction and enhance the retail experience,” said Hani Weiss, CEO at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

“The store represents a huge leap forwards for retail in the UAE and region as Carrefour continues to innovate to meet the needs of the present whilst anticipating future shopping trends.”

Carrefour City+ stocks over 1,300 items, including snacks, beverages, packaged food and food-to-go meals as well as basic essentials.
