Laybuy enlists magician Ryan Tricks for mobile app push

Illusionist Ryan Tricks has teamed up with buy now, pay later provider Laybuy for an, erm, magical publicity stunt.

He has been conjuring up prizes out of nowhere for passers by, including a QR code. When scanned, a shopper was told they had won £1,000.

Other prizes included one person finding freshly dropped Nike trainers appearing in an empty box with their name and correct shoes size, while another who had said they had always wanted to visit Iceland was rewarded with tickets from Lastminute.com.

Laura Malik, a 35 year old children's nurse from Whitefield Manchester, says: “I spotted the mural so stopped to take a picture, and I’m definitely glad I did.”

“My husband and I had the day off today so we just popped into town for some lunch as this is a very rare day together without the kids and I can’t believe how it’s turned out. I’m absolutely blown away – thank you Laybuy.”

The series of illusions, that took place on the streets of Manchester, marked the launch of Laybuy’s App Exclusives which sees hundreds of UK retailers added onto the venture’s app.

The activity took place against the backdrop of Laybuy’s magic scannable mural, which was unveiled last week and offers shoppers the chance to win hundreds of cash prizes.

The mural forms the centrepiece of a nationwide Laybuy Scavenger Hunt competition, which sees similar codes hidden in digital billboards. If people spot a code, they can scan it for the chance to win one of the 100 cash prizes available, ranging from £50 right up £1,000.

Laybuy Co-Founder Robyn Rohloff, says: “We’re celebrating the fact that shoppers can now shop at hundreds of their favourite brands for the first time all in one place within our app, rather than on individual partner websites.”

“It means people can shop and pay in six interest free instalments for household items, clothes, shoes, make-up and even holidays all in one go if desired, with brands added ranging from Amazon, Asos, Charlotte Tilbury, Jimmy Choo and Nike, to  Lastminute.com and eBay.”
