Sainsbury’s switches same day delivery service back on

Sainsbury’s has relaunched its same day home delivery service, having shelved it during the coronavirus outbreak.

The grocery giant operates this from more than 250 UK stores.

Customers who order before midday can chose a post 5pm delivery slot or a collection from their local store after 4pm. Plans are afoot to expand this to a further 100 stores by the end of October.

Sainsbury’s is also bringing back its Click and Collect offering and expanding its Chop Chop one-hour delivery service, through which customers can order up to 20 items, to another 25 stores. This will now be available in 75 stores across the UK.

The retailer now has capacity for 850,000 online grocery orders a week. It is also planning to ramp up its rapid delivery services through Deliveroo and Uber tie ups, with 20-minute deliveries to be offered through 500 stores by the end of this month.

Nigel Blunt, Sainsbury’s Director of E-commerce, says: “Customer demand for shopping online and for getting groceries quickly and conveniently has grown significantly and we are committed to offering customers choice and flexibility – whether that’s within 20 minutes to their front door or picking it up at their local store on their way home from work.”
