Zara taps Stripe Connect to process payments on Zara Pre-Owned resale platform

Stripe has been selected as Zara’s partner to process all payments for the retailer’s pre-owned clothing marketplace.

It will use Stripe Connect to move funds between buyers and sellers on the platform.

With Zara Pre-Owned, people take pictures of their unwanted Zara products, which are then cross-referenced with the retailer’s product portfolio, giving potential buyers detailed information on the items they wish to purchase.

The platform also offers Zara customers other sustainable choices, such as the option to donate their clothes or request a repair.

It is now available to customers in the UK, and will expand across other European markets in the second half of 2023.

“Sustainability in retail is finally receiving the attention it deserves to help protect our fragile planet. We're thrilled that Zara has chosen Stripe as they lead the way,” says Eileen O’Mara, Head of Global Sales at Stripe.

eBay

eBay recently announced the appointment of fashion stylist and pre-loved fashion advocate, Amy Bannerman, as its in-house Pre-Loved Style Director.

This will see her take on a range of new responsibilities within the fashion arm of the online marketplace’s business, including styling and sourcing for eBay’s fashion related campaigns, styling for key talent that work with the firm, on site merchandising consultations and acting as a fashion spokesperson for the brand.

The pair previously worked together to style the Islanders in the Love Island villa in pre-loved clothes sourced from eBay, including a selection of pre-loved, authenticated sneakers and garments from its Imperfects range.

Bannerman is continuing to do this job in her new capacity.

She will also play a key role in eBay’s partnership with Vogue Forces For Change, which celebrates sustainability, diversity and change makers.

As part of her role, she will be working with the British Vogue team to find pre-loved clothes on eBay for upcoming activity, as well as giving consumers insight into how to tap into trends through vintage and pre-loved on eBay.

With the tenth series of Love Island fast approaching, Bannerman first looked at the remaining clothes from the previous series, to send back into the villa in a bid to encourage re-wearing and extend the life cycle of those items.

Then, since spotting the gaps, she has been going in with a plan on eBay to find more stylish fits for every occasion on the show.

Most recently, she met with the Islanders ahead of the show going live to gauge their personal preferences and source pre-loved pieces for them.

For the first time in this long running TV programme, Bannerman is calling on the public’s help, by asking them to share items they’re selling and would like to see in the villa on social media using the hashtag #MyLoveIslandListing for the chance for it to be purchased by her for the Islanders.

Bannerman said: “I’m so happy to start this new role, it has been incredible working with eBay to style the Islanders for the past couple seasons and I'm so proud of how much we have already changed pre-loved perceptions. I’m excited to work even more closely with the eBay team to inspire a more conscious way of shopping.”

Kirsty Keoghan, Global GM of Fashion at eBay, said: “We’re thrilled to officially welcome Amy into the eBay team, she has already been instrumental to eBay’s impact in the pre-loved fashion movement, so we can’t wait to build on this relationship and see what further results we can achieve together.'“
