2023 RTIH retail technology awards: Payments Innovation category now open for submissions

The fifth edition of the RTIH Innovation Awards is now open for entries.

The awards celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world and include a payments category.

Deadline for 2023 submissions is Friday, 27th October, with winners being revealed at an exclusive event in central London on Wednesday, 29th November.

Entries are free and you can submit in multiple categories.

Payments Innovation category

This award recognises payment initiatives that are both innovative and customer and retailer friendly.

We’re looking to reward a project that has the potential to increase a retailer’s competitiveness and effectiveness, and to improve the shopper experience. Bonus points if the project could be considered a first in the market.

Compass Group and AiFi

Compass Group and AiFi emerged victorious at the 2022 RTIH Innovation Awards in December, picking up the Payments Innovation gong.

Our 2022 winners were revealed at a sold out event in central London on Tuesday, 6th December.

Compass Group has introduced Europe’s first ever frictionless store in a workplace using AI powered computer vision technology so staff can buy items without waiting in line or stopping to scan and pay.

Using tech from AiFi, customers ‘check in’ then wander through the store and select food. They leave with their purchases and a receipt delivered to their phone.

Computer vision cameras convert the shopper into an avatar to anonymously track, adding selected items to the virtual shopping cart. No facial recognition or biometrics are used, ensuring privacy.

Our judging panel said: “The ‘Tab, Grab, Go’ Compass proposition is the first in the UK/I (and Europe) foodservice market and specifically in the leisure and entertainment sector and stadia (Leicester City FC).”

“Speed of service and payment are two key customer pain points which are addressed by a credit/debit tap and/or mobile app credit/debit mobile payment to enter the computer vision store. A world first to offer open poured pints in a computer vision stadia environment.”

RTIH Editor, Scott Thompson, said: “Innovation and technology play a critical role in the success of the retail sector, so it is great to recognise standout examples through our awards.”

“Thanks to all those who entered the 2022 event. We received a record number of submissions and many fantastic examples of the continued resilience and dynamism of the retail space during hugely challenging times.”

“Congratulations to our 2022 retail technology hall of fame entrants.”
