Ikea gets close to the people of Copenhagen as it opens first ever city store in Denmark
Ikea has opened the doors of a new city store in Copenhagen, its first such location in Denmark and sixth overall.
“Today we have come as close to the people in Copenhagen as we have ever been,” says Tolga Öncü, Head of Retail (Ingka Group).
“The home furnishing expertise, the design, and the sustainable elements incorporated in this city store reflect our passion for creating a better everyday life for the many. As we keep investing in similar locations around the world, we look very much forward to welcoming our customers to this exceptional store”
Hej Copenhagen 👋 Today we are happy to welcome customers to a new city store downtown. The capital of Denmark now joins the ranks of Rome, Madrid and Stockholm, where we have recently opened new stores in city centers. Welcome! pic.twitter.com/E7FTkLxgdl

The store is located in downtown Copenhagen making it, according to Ikea, accessible for more than a million people within 20 minutes by bike, public transport or car.
The showrooms are designed based on insights gathered from over 100 home visits in Copenhagen, where people shared their needs and aspirations for a better everyday life.
The three storey building features large glass sections and white surfaces that resemble undulating curtains.
The store offers 500 parking spaces for bikes while loaner cargo bikes and direct home delivery options are also offered for customers.
Two hundred and fifty trees and shrubs are planted on-site with a quarter of the façade covered with green planting and solar cells on the roof. The open roof garden serves as a new public park within the city and will become part of a long green pedestrian street on rooftops.
Meanwhile, the acquisition of Denmark’s second largest logistics centre, CDC Copenhagen, brings increased availability, flexibility, and faster deliveries.
The new location is part of Ingka Group’s Euro 3 billion commitment to expand globally, creating new customer meeting points, and upgrading existing stores.
The company has recently opened new city stores in the likes of Rome, Madrid, and Barcelona.
