The top games for people to play in 2024

A new year means a whole slew of new games to entertain us – and no matter your preferred way of gaming, there is something impressive coming out this year that will suit you.

Gamers have been getting access to games that are increasingly deep, graphically superior, and with storylines that threaten to take over your life – and this year looks to be more of the same.

Even if your preferred way of gaming is playing slot games like Gates of Olympus, you might want to get on the console/PC gaming bandwagon just to get access to some of these titles.

What can you look forward to in 2024 then?

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

MGS is a rite of passage for most gamers, and there has been several rehashing’s and reboots of this most beloved series.

You’ll find this on most next-gen consoles as well as PC, and while there is not much information available on this title yet, the people in the know think that it seems to be a pretty faithful remake of the Hideo Kojima masterpiece.

Tekken 8

Beat ‘em up games are a perennial favourite of gamers – and Tekken might be the more grown up version of Mortal Kombat – but this is the latest instalment and we can expect to see top-level graphics and animation alongside the blood, guts, and gore that we expect from the series.

This is one of the titles that will release the earliest in 2024 – slated for January – and we look forward to getting into it.

Skull and Bones

For those who love the open sea and pirates and want a more realistic version of Sea of Thieves, Skull and Bones seems to fill that gap perfectly.

In this action adventure game, you control all aspects of the pirate life, creating a life on the seas through swashbuckling adventure, avoiding rival clans and the elements – not to mention the terrifying sea creatures too!

Life By You

Hailed as the first real competitor to The Sims, you can get really into controlling your characters lives. You can experiment, create wide sweeping storylines, and control pretty much everything in the world with this game.

It’s a really social sandbox game, but it is only available for PC at the moment, which might make it less than perfect for the console players.

Still Wakes the Deep

It’s never too early in the year for a truly terrifying horror game, and Still Wakes the Deep has some pretty eerie atmosphere going for it.

Set on an oil rig in the 1970s, it is a super immersive tale told in grittily realistic animation – and you know that you will have to find out what lurks beneath the surface of the North Sea.

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong

One for the Switch players, and there is nothing more iconic than Mario, is there? This puzzle-based update for the handheld console is aimed at perhaps the younger spectrum of players, but that doesn’t mean that us supposed ‘grown ups’ won’t get a lot of fun from it.

It might not be the side scrolling classic that we are used to, but it does have a lot of fun ways to use your brain (and wind-up Marios) to get through the levels.

Pacific Drive

The survival game gets a mechanical makeover, as you need to survive being stranded in your car on a road alongside the Pacific. You’ll need to avoid being destroyed by some weirdly mutated science experiments while you keep your old-fashioned car running, searching for parts, and making sure your tyres are not getting punctured.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

There is no denying how immersive and expansive the world of Elden Ring is, and this addition to the storytelling seems to follow the same pattern. Expect extensive worldbuilding, stunning animation and design, and a story so immersive you will never want to leave.

There is no confirmed date of release, but a leak suggests maybe it will be February.

Manor Lords

A combination of city building and battles, this game is set in the Medieval world and you’ll have to build a village, look after your tenants, and ensure that you win the tactical battels that you will have to face throughout.

It’s a game that looks stunning, and while it is only going to be initially released on PC through Early Access, apparently it is coming to Xbox, too.

Dustborn

A dystopian future, a group of friends travelling across America, and apparently you can change the world using words.

Design-wise, it looks a bit like Cyberpunk, but it is a story-based action-adventure story, and it looks like it might offer something a little bit different for the players.
