Akos Tajta talks ride of a lifetime as he announces departure from local commerce specialist Wolt
Akos Tajta has left Helsinki-based technology company Wolt, which helps people discover and get the best restaurants, grocery stores and other local shops delivered to their doors.
He spent almost eight years at the firm, holding the role of Global Head of Country Support Operations.
Wolt was acquired by DoorDash in 2022, with the latter’s Co-founder and CEO Tony Xu saying at the time:. "We’re at the beginning of a colossal journey, and I'm more excited than ever about what we're building and the potential to help hundreds of millions of people across the globe in our mission to empower local economies.”
“Together with Wolt, we believe we have the best team and platform to serve merchants, consumers, and couriers in our existing and future markets. Our journey in building our international business is just beginning and we're confident in the incredible future we will build together."

In a LinkedIn post, Tajta said: “After 7.5 unforgettable years, I’m saying goodbye to Wolt/DoorDash. From launching Wolt in Hungary to leading global teams of 5,000+ across 31 countries - it’s truly been the ride of a lifetime.”
“What started building the company from scratch in Hungary with Matias Nordström and a handful of people evolved into leading across the Baltics and Central Europe as RGM and later heading our global live support for 31 markets. Along the way, I had the privilege of working with incredibly talented and ambitious colleagues who inspired me daily and showed me the power of teams that truly care.”
He added: “Together with these teams, we accomplished something special as we shared an obsession for doing common things uncommonly well. What I’ll remember most are not only the wins, but the tough times and hard decisions we faced together - moments that shaped us. I would do it all over again… No politics, no BS, but execution and a clear vision. Together, we have built something remarkable and made lifelong friendships.”
“Now it’s time for reflection, family, and recharging before the next chapter. I’ll always be proud of what we accomplished - and I’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines.”
2025 RTIH INNOVATION AWARDS
On demand delivery will be a key focus area at the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards.
The awards. which are now closed for entries with our finalists and shortlists being announced this week, celebrate global tech innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.
Our 2024 hall of fame entrants were revealed during an event which took place at RIBA’s 66 Portland Place HQ in Central London on 21st November, and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by comedian Lucy Porter
In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “The event is now into its sixth year and what a journey it has been. The awards started life as an online only affair during the Covid outbreak, before launching as a small scale in real life event and growing year on year to the point where we’re now selling out this fine, historic venue.”
He added: “Congratulations to all of our finalists. Many submissions did not make it through to the final stage, and getting to this point is no mean feat. Checkout-free stores, automated supply chains, immersive experiences, on-demand delivery, next generation loyalty offerings, inclusive retail, green technology. We’ve got all the cool stuff covered this evening.”
“But just importantly we’ve got lots of great examples of companies taking innovative tech and making it usable in everyday operations - resulting in more efficiency and profitability in all areas.”
Congratulations to our 2024 winners, and a big thank you to our sponsors, judging panel, the legend that is Lucy Porter, and all those who attended November's gathering.
