Patatam looks to bring second hand clothing to mainstream

French retailer Patatam has launched in the UK with the mission of making the buying and disposing of unwanted clothing both convenient and ethical.

The venture sells second hand clothing from brands including Topshop, Zara and River Island to shoppers at prices 70% less than the High Street. The clothes are sourced from charity shops, housing clearance centres and from the public using Patatam’s Patabag service. All purchases come with a free 48 hour delivery service, £2 next day delivery service, free returns and no minimum spend on orders.

Consumers access the website, enter the details of their unwanted clothing, receive a quote for purchasing them and then send them off. Provided they meet Patatam’s standards, a payment is sent out there and then. The retailer then handles the resale of the items.

Eric Gagnaire, Co-founder at Patatam, says: “Following our successful launch in France in 2013, we now feel it is the time to bring this concept to the UK. We support those shoppers who want to be fashionable, but do so more ethically, by searching for or selling their pre-loved quality clothing from their favourite High Street brands.”

He adds: “We want to bring second hand clothing to the mainstream and make fashion shopping ethical for all involved.”
