The five most important retail tech news stories of the week

It’s Friday, the week is nearly done, so let’s kick back and reflect on another eventful week for the retail technology space. Here's your briefing on some of the most important and interesting stories from the past five days.

1. Ocado embroiled in legal row with co-founder 

Ocado is suing one of its founders, Jonathan Faiman.

They are accusing him of conspiring with a senior employee, Jon Hillary, to "unlawfully obtain" information on the e-commerce venture so they could launch a new company, Today Development Partners, and try to win deals. Ocado alleges that this was used to form the basis of an agreement with Waitrose.

2. Octopus Ventures leads major Ometria funding round

UK-based AI-powered customer marketing startup, Ometria, has raised $21 million in a Series B funding round led by Octopus Ventures and also including existing investors Sonae IM, Summit Action, Samos and Adjuvo.

3. DPD partners with Asos for another five years

DPD has signed a new contract with Asos which will see it supply delivery services to the pureplay’s customers across the UK until at least September 2024.

4. France: Major retailers to start accepting Bitcoin

Support for Bitcoin payments will soon be launched at 25,000+ sales points across 30 French retailers, including Decathlon and Sephora. 

5. Sook emerges as Transport for London retail innovation winner

Transport for London (TfL) has announced Sook as the winner of its first retail innovation competition, which it launched in May.
