Amazon picks Manchester for latest tech centre
Amazon has opened a new tech centre in Manchester. This adds to its corporate offices in London, Cambridge and Edinburgh.
The 90,000 sq ft site will eventually employ 600 people, taking the e-commerce giant’s headcount in the North West to more than 6,000.
It will also take on retail and business development graduates throughout 2020. Amazon is launching a new Future Engineer Bursary to support undergraduates from low-income backgrounds studying computer science at the University of Manchester.
Doug Gurr, Amazon's UK boss, comments: “Manchester offers an incredible talent pool, a thriving hub of fast-growing UK tech startups and is a centre of academic and intellectual excellence.”
