Sainsbury's has Xmas in mind as it steps up SmartShop roll-out
Sainsbury’s is accelerating the roll-out of its SmartShop solution.
The technology will be deployed at all 770 of its convenience branches over the next three months, in time for Christmas. This is up from 250 Local branches currently, alongside all Sainsbury’s supermarkets.
Sainsbury’s says that sales through SmartShop have exceeded 50% in some stores and 37% of total sales across the retailer in the past quarter.
Its rivals have also been busy in this space. Asda has made its mobile Scan & Go service available in all 581 stores, while 310 Marks and Spencer Food Halls now have its Mobile Pay Go app.
Tesco, meanwhile, has Scan as You Shop in 573 large format branches.
