JD Logistics has big news as China recovers from coronavirus

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com reports an “explosive” increase in the number of large items delivered by its JD Logistics unit in Wuhan, Hubei province, since the coronavirus lockdown lifted.

There was a rise of over 900% in the first week of April, compared with the same period in March.

The most popular items delivered were furniture, home appliances and fitness equipment. Air conditioners, refrigerators and gas water-heaters experienced the most significant increase in demand.

The likes of office tables, file cabinets and water dispensers have also been big hits as more enterprises resume operations in Wuhan.

JD’s large merchandise operation centre in Dongxihu District has seen an increase in the number of vehicles which transport goods into the city from around the country. It continued to operate during the lockdown, helping many brands transport goods to Hubei.

Coronavirus infections rise

On Sunday, China’s national health commission reported 108 new infections in the country, the highest number in more than five weeks.

All but 10 of the cases were imported, and seven of the local infections were in the Heilongjiang province, a northern region where authorities are upping restrictions and monitoring after a rise in people with Covid-19 crossing the Russian border.
