Retail technology innovation of the week: Rovertown powers Huck’s Bucks Bigg Rewards app

Retail Technology Innovation of the Week is a new series from RTIH highlighting stand out deployments, launches, and initiatives.

Every week, we will showcase forward thinking tech plays that have impressed our Editor and the Retail Technology Innovations Report judging panel, in the run up to the publication of the 2024 report early next year.

So far, we’ve showcased work being done by Ocado Retail, Decathlon, Lacoste, and Downtown Spirits, and TalkShopLive.

And now we’re focusing on Huck’s and Rovertown.

Huck’s, a US convenience store chain with more than 120 locations across Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky, and Tennessee, has announced the launch of its revamped mobile app.

It says that the Huck’s Bucks Bigg Rewards app, powered by Rovertown, combines the latest in loyalty marketing, scan-and-go payments, and customer engagement strategies.

“Our focus is on providing best in class shopping experiences in our stores as well as on mobile devices,” says Murat Tokad, CEO at Huck’s. “Our new app assists guests with everyday functions and provides targeted offers within an easy to use, modern mobile experience.”

Shoppers can skip the registers and pay for their purchases directly from their mobile devices using Skip’s scan and go technology.

Loyalty marketing features, powered by Punchh, offer new ways to save money and earn rewards. Coming soon, guests will also gain access to e-commerce and delivery services through Vroom Delivery.

Additionally, a mobile racing game, featuring the #1 XFinity NASCAR sponsored by Huck’s and driven by Sam Mayer, provides opportunities to win a free large Bigg Swigg.

The tap to add coupons feature enables them to select the deals and discounts that are most appealing to them. This not only benefits the customers, but also helps Huck’s eliminate a common issue where customers were given discounts without their knowledge.

"The results are quite remarkable. We've achieved an impressive milestone of over 100,000 app users in just a month," says Jon Bunch, Director of Marketing at Huck’s.

"Our emphasis on digital innovation, together with major in-store improvements in recent years, positions Huck’s to effectively serve and enrich our communities for years to come."
