Yum China unveils contactless delivery service amid coronavirus

Yum China, which has exclusive rights in mainland China to KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, has launched a contactless delivery service.

The move is a response to concerns about transmission of coronavirus between customers and employees.

“The health and wellbeing of our employees and customers is our top priority,” Yum China said in a statement. “And the innovative new service will help reduce the risk of person-to-person transmission of the coronavirus and protect our employees and customers.”

Customers can select the option when placing an order online. They will have to remain at least 10 feet from the masked delivery personnel, who will remove the boxed food from its thermal pouch and place it at an agreed pick-up point.

Staff disinfect their hands before and after every transaction. Food may also be picked up in stores in hygienically sealed packages.

Yum China, which runs more than 9,000 KFCs, Pizza Huts and other restaurants in China, has been forced to temporarily close more than three in ten outlets due to the coronavirus outbreak.
