Sainsbury's is returning to bagless online deliveries

Sainsbury's will bring back bagless online grocery deliveries at the end of this month.

Last October, the grocery giant removed plastic bags from its e-commerce offering. But early in the coronavirus pandemic, it temporarily reintroduced them.

“We are now in a position to return to bagless deliveries from 30th August. This applies to both home delivery and Click and Collect orders,” it said in an email to customers.

“The only exception to this will be some items such as raw meat and fish, which will still be bagged for food safety reasons,” it added.

The retailer added that its staff members will continue to follow social distancing guidelines and will not enter customers’ home when they deliver orders, although they can assist in transferring orders from totes to people’s own bags or containers.

“Our drivers also have sanitiser which they will continue to use before and after each delivery,” the email notes. “Please have bags or a suitable container ready for when your shopping arrives or during your collection slot.

“If you are shielding, we would ask that you leave bags outside your door so that the driver can transfer your shopping into your bags for you,” it concludes.
