Ten notable retail technology appointments

1. Vivek Malik
Checkout-free technologies startup, Zippin, has hired Vivek Malik, formerly Senior Director of Infrastructure and Store IT at 7-Eleven, as Senior VP of Store Systems.
2. Mike Yorwerth
Mike Yorwerth has joined Marks and Spencer as Chief Technology Officer.
Yorwerth previously worked at Bunzl as Group Chief Information Officer.
Prior to that, he spent almost 18 years at Tesco, holding such positions as Chief Architect and Technology Director and Group Technology and Architecture Director.
3. Naveed Islam
Merchant services provider Paymentsense has hired Naveed Islam as Chief Information Security Officer.
He joins from Dixons Carphone, where he spent four years, first as Deputy Chief Information Officer before becoming Chief Information Security Officer.
4. Fraser Brown
UK-based brewery and pub chain, BrewDog, has appointed Fraser Brown as Head of Information Technology.
Brown joins from Aberdeen Standard Investments where he served as an IT consultant.
5. Doug Wates
Doug Wates has joined Primark as a business analyst, after a year away from the retail sector.
Wates previously spent over six years at Asos as Logistics Manager. He has also worked at Topshop/Topman in the role of Logistics and Distribution Manager.
6. Gary O’Connor
Gary O’Connor has joined data collection platform venture Shepper as Chief Technology Officer.
O’Connor was previously Chief Product and Technology Officer at e-commerce solutions provider Doddle. He has also worked as CTO, VP Engineering and Architect for companies including the BBC, Betfair and IBM.
7. Silvana Bonello
Superdry has appointed Julian Dunkerton as CEO on a permanent basis, replacing his interim contract which had been due to expire in April.
The fashion firm is also bringing in Silvana Bonello as Chief Operating Officer.
8. Alice Rackley
Alice Rackley has joined global supply chain standards and solutions provider GS1 UK as Head of UK Retail.
Rackley arrives from Arvonia Consulting which she set up after leaving Marks and Spencer.
9. Nick Giovanni
Nick Giovanni is onboard with online grocery platform Instacart as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Giovanni spent more than 20 years at Goldman Sachs, most recently as Head of the Global Technology, Media and Telecom Group.
10. Paula Bobbett
Paula Bobbett has taken on the role of Director, Boots.com at Boots UK.
She was previously at Dixons Carphone, where she started as Senior Manager, E-commerce Insight in 2013, before becoming Head of Online Trade, Analytics and Insight in 2015 and finally Head of Online Performance in 2018.
