Retail technology innovation key for M.Video-Eldorado amid Covid restrictions

M.Video-Eldorado Group, Russia’s largest consumer electronics retailer, has expanded its capacity for express delivery from stores and increased its courier delivery capacity by 50%.

M.Video and Eldorado stores will continue to operate in line with new region specific Covid restrictions, while focusing on online services.

They offer customers various delivery options ranging from one to two hours.

Customers can collect their orders at an M.Video or Eldorado store, receive them by regular courier delivery or by express taxi delivery from the nearest store, or pick them up at one of more than 60,000 locations, including Pyaterochka stores, Russian Post offices or PickPoint collection points.

In 2020–2021, M.Video-Eldorado significantly expanded its online sales, which currently account for over 70% of the group’s total GMV. It has transferred regular customers to mobile solutions.

The M.Video and Eldorado mobile apps have been installed more than 21 million times, a more than fourfold increase from last year.

“A hybrid business model and innovative technological solutions give us flexibility to respond to temporary pandemic-related changes and other market challenges,” says Dagmara Ivanova, Managing Director for OneRetail, M.Video-Eldorado.

“With a lockdown in place, stores with an up-to-date product range have become the backbone of our infrastructure and have helped sharpen our competitive edge by offering fast delivery within two hours or scheduled delivery at the customer’s convenience.”

Ivanova adds: “During the previous lockdown, our customers made the most of our video consultation service: our shop assistants can demonstrate any item available in stores and help customers place an order.”

“Our online sales have grown over the past year, and this service remains available. Our online sales growth has also been fuelled by 150% increase in our product assortment.”
