Iceland becomes first food retailer to join The Climate Pledge
Iceland Foods has joined The Climate Pledge, a public commitment to “go green” launched by Amazon and Jeff Bezos in 2019.
The British supermarket is the first food retailer to sign up.
It is one of 20 new signatories announced today. 53 companies in 12 countries have now joined.
The hardest news to keep quiet (for a year!) but I’m beyond excited that you can pre-order my book The Green Grocer now. A manifesto for corporate activism, it explores my life and business lessons, and passion for #sustainability and #socialchange: https://t.co/x7L6D1otKM pic.twitter.com/VsoxHKGhe8

“As the US takes an important step forward in the fight against climate change by officially rejoining the Paris Agreement this week, I am excited to welcome 20 new companies to The Climate Pledge who want to go even faster,” says Bezos.
“Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge in 2019 to encourage companies to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement 10 years early, and we’re seeing incredible momentum behind the pledge.”
“Together, we can use our collective scale to help decarbonise the economy and preserve earth for future generations.”
“We believe that every business has a moral responsibility to take ambitious action to address major and urgent sustainability issues; it is also a commercial imperative for any business that hopes to have a future,” comments Richard Walker, Iceland Foods MD.
“We are honoured and delighted to be the first food retailer to join The Climate Pledge and commit to be net-zero carbon by 2040.”
