Uzbek grocery chain Makro notches up stores milestone

Makro, Uzbekistan’s largest grocery store chain, has opened its 100th location.

It now operates in 27 cities across the country.

The 100th and 101st stores were opened in the cities of Jizzakh and Zomin, both in the Jizzakh region.

The Makro chain now operates 57 supermarkets, 44 Makro Express stores and 38 24-hour convenience outlets and employs more than 4,000 people. In the past year, it has also launched an e-commerce platform.

“Our goal is to build a truly national network of grocery stores, offering customers in every corner of the country a wide assortment of consistently high quality products,” says Roman Sayfulin, Makro’s CEO.

“We are for everyone – from students to pensioners, professionals in the capital to workers in regional cities. We are delighted to bring the Makro experience to the residents of the Jizzakh region.”

Going electric

Last month, Makro announced plans to install a network of 30 charging stations for electric vehicles at its supermarkets in Tashkent and 10 other cities across the country.

This will include the new store in Jizzakh.
