54%Ingka Group says that it has reduced food waste by 54% in its Ikea stores.

That translates into more than 20 million saved meals and 36,000 tonnes of CO2e that have been avoided.

This results from more than 20,000 Ikea food co-workers who were trained to use Winnow’s AI technology in their daily routines.

$100 million and $1 billionSwiftly has announced a $100 million Series C funding round led by BRV Capital Management, bringing the company's total valuation to more than $1 billion.

This marks Swiftly’s second $100 million financing round in less than six months.

The startup provides bricks and mortar grocers with branded phone apps designed to help retailers gather highly customer data and earn advertising dollars, while shoppers can find what they’re looking for in the aisles, recall past purchases and skip lines by scanning products and paying with their phones.

500Dagrofa, a Denmark-based company with over 500 grocery stores, is partnering with RELEX Solutions to provide automated and optimised forecasting and replenishment planning for its three distribution centres.

30Next has hired Duncan Robson as Chief IT Architect.

He joins from IBM where he spent almost 30 years, taking on such roles as Retail CTO for IBM UK and Executive IT Architect for the Distribution Industry and IBM TCG Chair.

In a LinkedIn post, dated 20th September, Robson said: “Today was my first day in my new job, as Chief IT Architect for Next. Had a great time, so much amazing work going on, and everyone really welcoming.”

€5.4 millionInstant Commerce, a headless storefront builder, has secured a €5.4 million seed.

The round was led by HV Capital and joined by Hearst Ventures and existing investor firstminute capital.

$42 trillionResearch by RBR shows that worldwide expenditure on payment cards reached over $42 trillion in 2021, representing a rise of 23%.

This came as economies around the world recovered from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which had led to a marginal fall in payment card spending in 2020.
